Family Sail
Our first family sailing trip on the J/28 met all expectations. The day was overcast with a shifty north wind in the low teens. Cristin drove most of the time and we talked about true and apparent wind and tacking and such. The boat behaves very well with full sail (135 Jib) in low teens and I suspect we won’t need to reduce sail until we reach mid to upper teens.
When we got back to the mooring I cleaned and polished some of the stainless while the girls colored on the drop down table in the salon and Cristin sat on the starboard settee and read her phone. We have to take care of this boat because I suspect we will have it for quite some time. To me this means eliminating all possibility of water entry in the core by and properly maintaining the engine. Cristin’s priority is to get the port of call changed from Marion to Mattapoisett. I still fantasize about getting the bottom resurfaced, a new set of triradial sails, and adding jam cleats to make the traveler more easy to adjust. I suspect that after getting the yard bills this fall, these items will be pushed a few years out. Spindrift was a great find.
