Eggs over Ellie

Cristin abandoned her family to go to a spa and sailing vacation in Miami.  The weekend started out with some solid bad parenting.  I returned home from work friday and was pretty fatigued and I ended up letting the kids jump on the coffee table while I watched Seinfeld.  It happened to be that kind of recap episode they played before they aired the show’s final episode at the end of the 9th season.   I put the girls in the bath and I read digg on my phone and put them to bed and worked on lectures while watching the director’s cut of Apocalypse Now.   An amazing movie but probably one of the few movies where I prefer the original to the director’s cut.  Saturday we went to Chatham and we were having a good time en route listening to Phoebe’s spotify favorites until just before exit 6 when Ellie asked me for water and as I turned to hand it to her I watched as her entire breakfast – scrambled eggs, apples, a blueberry muffin, yogurt, OJ, and two glazed munchkins, spewed out of her mouth like slow moving lava.  Quel cauchemar.  Fortunately this occurred just before the rest stop so we pulled over.  I stripped Ellie down to her diaper directly adjacent to a state policeman who was busy with his laser speed gun which seemed to only hone in on cars with NY plates.  I put her in the front seat and blasted the heat while I went through an entire package of wipes trying to clean up. Phoebe complained of the smell which was quite bad, although I couldn’t quite put my finger on the scent.  It reminded me a bit of post-alcohol vomit smell but it has been so long since I have experienced that, maybe 20 years that I can’t trust my memory.  We arrived about 30 minutes late and the girls quickly played with all of the Gaga toys and waited for Grandpa to get back from the office.  We had a nice lunch and ventured outside in the snow for a while before Gaga put Ellie down for a failed nap and read to Phoebe while I went out for an iced coffee.  A moderately pleasant dinner featuring Ellie’s constant banter and a quiet ride home capped off the day. Happy 5th birthday to Jake.
