Cowles in, No Flacco

A few months back Sarah called to say that she had received a call from the athletic director at the University of Delaware (her alma mater) that she had been selected for the 2013 Athletics Hall of Fame Class.  Apparently this is some kind of big deal so I flew down and met Sarah and Jon who had flown into BWI via a rather circuitous route involving a bus trip to orange county and a stopover in Boston.  The ceremony provided the right mix of emotions and unlike the rambling musings of several of the older inductees, Sarah’s speech hit the key points without any need for minutiae.  Mind you she couldn’t remember the details anyway which she likes to pretend is due to her moving on to bigger and brighter things which muddies the memories of her old feats but we all know this is really due to those particular brain cells not making it past graduation.  There was further evidence of this theory as we drove around campus during which she identified at best three landmarks.  Luckily JTM was able to come up and meet with us on saturday afternoon and was able to fill in the gaps and selected a very good restaurant for beers and pasta.  The inductees were also presented at half time at the football game against Richmond which Delaware lost on the last drive after a rather remarkable comeback that was witnessed firsthand by exactly 33 students, 25 of whom were in the band.   All in all, a weirdly amazing emotional experience.
