Potty Talk

Ellie has shown some subdued interest in trying to use the potty. There is a commercial for Pullups that usually runs prior to Sophia the First which features a small child successfully using the potty followed by explosive excitement reminiscent of the ticker-tape parades that welcomed the soldiers home from the European theater of WWII. On several occasions, this commercial has inspired Ellie to go upstairs and make an attempt but I must say she doesn’t give what I would consider an honest effort. She is clearly trying to perform some manipulation of her mid-section but I don’t think she has made the connection with the right muscles yet. I sit on the edge of the bathtub across from her hoping to engage her in some conversation so she will sit for more than a few seconds and let gravity kick in. Lately she has used this time to work on one of her new one liners, “it smells in here” which is amusing from someone sitting on a toilet but not so funny when used as a response to your concerns of what is wrong when she wakes up for the third time in the middle of the night. Eventually she will get things figured out and I am hopeful she will get to the level of control of Phoebe who has been referred to by several people as “a camel” which is a strange and faulty analogy.
