Tootsie’s Birthday Party – with Cupcakes!
After the Disney Junior show we headed to see Poppy and Tootsie. It was Tootsie’s birthday but this point was a bit lost among the excitement of mini-cupcakes. Just as Cristin still doesn’t understand that shortcuts are valid only if they produce a shorter trip time, not a shorter distance, the kids prefer many small over few large without any consideration of total amount. I had a cupcake and my brain was immediately excited about it but it was Dave who figured out why. It tasted just like a twinkie. Tootsie got a nice necklace from Surroundings and Ellie ordered her to “put it on” over the necklace she had been wearing. The sisters gave her an additional present, some kind of fancy Italian face cream When the girls first announced the sister present I was a little bemused as to why the men and children were left out but I was ok not being included in a skin product that works by paralyzing the muscles in your face. We all relaxed on the couch while Tootsie played a significant game of 101 Dalmatians with the girls which consists of her donning a Cruella wig and chasing them around while they ran from her and periodically hid. Even at this age they remain terrible at hiding. I don’t quite understand how these children can manipulate language so well and partially read and write and yet they still have no clue how to make themselves unseen. You would think that from a species survival perspective that this might have been a priority but maybe they just talked the Sabertooths down with reasoning. Actually, the whining that they can put out would have been sufficient to dispatch Goliath. Perhaps David’s sling is some kind of metaphor for this merciless whining.
We left in the late afternoon and the girls were not happy about not getting to have a sleepover. Later that evening the pre-bath TV request was Sophia the First. It will be interesting to see if it lasts, that is the show put some kind of permanent mark in their cerebrum strong enough to displace the Octonauts or the offerings of Nick Jr. Luckily Dave started a box-seat tradition so we will be ready when the Octonaut tour comes through town.
