Polar Vortex Intermission

A weather window between polar vortices prompted a trip to the Roger Williams Park Zoo. We decided to go the reverse direction of our normal route. It was my intention to get to spend more time with the animals we tend to gloss over such as the snow leopard. However, I hadn’t considered that this was going to take us to the kids explore area first and we became firmly lodged there for an hour, maybe two. This place reminds me a bit of the play area at the Encinitas Botanical Garden, just replace cold and damp with dusty and warm and squirrels with lizards. Lunchtime got us moving and we went to the cafeteria to enjoy these lunch boxes featuring the highest density of packaging ever seen that Cristin had bought. I believe that each pepperoni was individually wrapped. It took a lot of coaxing but in the end everybody ate everything and Phoebe even ate a whole bunch of dried fruits that I informed her were all raisins even though they were red (cranberries) and blue (??). We finished the park in reverse but nearly all the animals were inside. Phoebe slept on the way home and I took her to free swim which has become the special time I get to spend with her each week.
