Couragish
For the second year running we attended the Mattapoisett tree lighting ceremony. Santa was scheduled to arrive at 4:15 which is mid-nap for the kids and we found ourselves with less than 15 minutes to pull the children from their beds, use the potty, get dressed, use the potty again and drive down to the wharf in time for his arrival on the fire truck. With sirens blaring there was no chance Phoebe was going anywhere near this man or Mrs. Claus but she did get the courage up to hug frosty and rudolph and eventually danced with both of them near the tree. The tree lighting faced delay until an electrician was found who could tap into the electric line which carried the juice from the locked harbormaster’s office where the actual switch apparently lives. Even though the forecast was a bit gloomy, it was a beautiful night in the mid 50’s and with the bandstand, the wharf, and the historic houses along water street all lit up with candles, it was quite stunning. We capped off the evening with a trip to friendly’s where Phoebe followed up dinner with some plastic penguin sundae that can be washed and converted into a savings bank. I once thought that the possibilities of what can be made out of plastic are limitless but this thing is a sign that we are reaching the end. We were supposed to split the dessert but I found myself out in the car dealing with an Ellie blowout and upon return found that Phoebe had not held up her end of the bargain.
