Lunch by the Sea

On tuesdays and thursdays I pickup Phoebe from school after teaching in the morning and I take her home.  At some point we started stopping by a small park that was on the way home and somehow on a rainy day this morphed into eating popcorn on the wharf.  I have to eat lunch anyway and eating with Phoebe is more fun than sitting in my office eating while I grade and trying to avoid getting my food all over the homework.   I have discovered on these outings that Phoebe is a stickler about her popcorn.  I tried to sneak in some Lay’s product the other week and she wanted nothing to do with it.  It is Smart Food all the way.  It is Smart of course because the people who market it are smart in that they have us convinced with their bio-digestible packaging and stark graphics that is somehow much healthier than any competing products.  Anyway this is a special time for me and I get to hear odd tidbits about her morning at school which tend to make sense around two weeks later when some other piece of crucial information becomes available.  I feel like Fox Mulder.   Phoebe likes to DJ the music but she has so little patience that the satellite channels aren’t able to lock in before she is on to the next so the only noise I actually hear is the sound of ejecting CDs which serve as vehicles by which cheddar cheese can be transported into the interior of my radio.
