Dirty Work
Chatham celebrates a scaled down version of Boston’s First Night celebration which includes a cod drop at midnight, an array of musical acts, puppet shows, and other attractions. I have been to the cod drop once and stood in the Squire while the cod dropped a half dozen times. The big attraction for kids is the ringling brothers circus act at the high school. Phoebe and I decided to see the circus so we headed downtown with the cousins, aunt Sarah, uncle Jon, and Jason to get a button. They were sold out. The staff’s response to my query about what happened implied that they could only accommodate so many people but the reality is that they didn’t order enough buttons. In the end it was OK because the teenage girl checking buttons at the circus didn’t have the stones to chase after me. The acts were very impressive but Phoebe provided the night’s entertainment. I hadn’t brought extra diapers with me and Sarah graciously dealt with an emergency minutes after arriving using a diaper provided by Christy that was a few sizes to small. She was optimistic that it would hold until we got home. However, moments after the picture below (Phoebe is in Sarah’s lap) was taken I saw both Sarah and Jon overcome with hysterics as a stream of liquid slowly made its way across the floor. Thank goodness for kind Aunts.
